Effective Date: 12 July 2026

Thank you for visiting our website, accessible via https://smchifi.co.uk. At SMC Hi-Fi, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your information in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  1. Information We Collect:
    • Personal Information: When you visit our website or contact us via email, we may collect personal information such as your name, email address, postal address, phone number, and any other information you voluntarily provide.
    • Usage Information: We may also collect non-personal information about your visit to our website, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and browsing patterns.
  2. Use of Information:
    • We use the information we collect to:
      • Respond to your inquiries and provide you with the services or information you request.
      • Send you updates, newsletters, or promotional materials if you have opted in to receive them.
      • Analyse website usage and improve our website’s functionality and user experience.
      • Comply with legal requirements and enforce our terms of service.
  3. Legal Basis for Processing:
    • We process personal information based on the following legal grounds:
      • Your consent, where applicable.
      • To fulfill our contractual obligations with you.
      • To comply with legal obligations.
      • For legitimate business interests, such as improving our services and marketing activities.
  4. Data Sharing and Disclosure:
    • We may share your information with trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, provided that they agree to keep this information confidential.

    • We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting the revised Privacy Policy on this page.

Where we rely on your consent — for example, analytics cookies — we ask for it explicitly, and you can change your mind at any time using the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer of every page. Simply using this website does not, by itself, amount to consent to any non-essential processing. Other processing described in this policy relies on the lawful bases set out above, such as responding to an enquiry you send us.

If you have any questions or concerns about our Privacy Policy, please contact us at hello@smchifi.co.uk.

When You Contact Us

If you send an enquiry or repair request through our forms, we receive the details you provide (name, contact details, and your message). We use them solely to reply to you and to carry out whatever you’ve asked us to do. Enquiries are delivered to us by email and also stored securely within this website so nothing gets lost. We only add you to our mailing list if you tick the optional ‘keep me posted’ box on a form; every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time by emailing hello@smchifi.co.uk. We never sell or share your details.

Booking a Demonstration

Our appointment calendar is provided by Cal.com. When you book, the details you enter (name, email, phone and your notes) are processed by Cal.com on our behalf to manage the appointment — see the Cal.com privacy policy for details of their processing.

Finding Us (Google Maps)

Our contact page includes an embedded Google Map. When the map loads, Google may collect technical information (such as your IP address) and set cookies of its own — see the Google privacy policy. The map is there purely to help you find the showroom.

Cookies on this site

We keep cookies to a minimum. Here is exactly what we use:

  • Essential cookies. A small cookie (smc_consent, kept for 6 months) remembers your cookie choice. WordPress sets login cookies for our own staff only — never for visitors. Our caching system may set a technical cookie that contains no personal information.
  • Booking calendar. Our demonstration booking calendar is provided by Cal.com and sets the cookies it needs to function when you use it.
  • Analytics (only with your consent). If you choose “Accept all” on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics (cookies beginning _ga) to see anonymously which pages people find useful. If you choose “Essential only”, no analytics run at all. Analytics data is aggregated and never identifies you personally.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we never sell or share visitor data. You can change your mind at any time via the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page.
