Hi-Fi Repairs & Servicing

In-house expertise

We’re one of the few Hi-Fi specialists in Shropshire to offer genuine in-house repairs. Our experienced repair engineer diagnoses, services and restores equipment on-site — from treasured vintage amplifiers and turntables to modern components that have stopped performing as they should.

A good repair doesn’t just get the music playing again; it protects the value of equipment worth keeping and extends its life for years to come.

  • Inspection. We assess your equipment for a £100 inspection fee — non-refundable, but it comes off the cost of the repair if you go ahead.
  • If it can’t be repaired, we may put some or all of that fee towards another item from us, depending on the value of what you choose.
  • Repairs up to £100 are carried out automatically, so small jobs aren’t held up.
  • Larger repairs are always discussed and agreed with you after inspection — you’re never committed to an unexpected bill.
  • Turnaround. Our repair engineer is in the workshop two days a week, so a typical repair is back with you in one to two weeks — we’ll give you an honest estimate when you book it in.
  • Testing. Everything is tested thoroughly before it’s returned to you.

Vintage and modern

Older equipment often has years of life left in it with the right attention — a service, new parts or a careful restoration. If you’ve inherited or rediscovered a system, bring it in and we’ll tell you honestly what it needs and whether it’s worth doing. We work on most makes, whether or not we stock them — if it’s worth saving, we’ll gladly look at it.

If your turntable is the culprit, remember a worn stylus can damage records as well as dull the sound — our vinyl care guide explains what to watch for.

What We Commonly Repair

  • Amplifiers and receivers — transistor and valve
  • Turntables and record players, from proper decks to Dansette-style portables
  • CD players and cassette decks
  • Loudspeakers — drivers, crossovers and surround refoaming
  • General servicing of older equipment — cleaning, recapping and safety checks

What We Don’t Generally Take On

  • Equipment still under manufacturer warranty — that repair belongs with the maker, and we’ll point you the right way
  • Televisions, soundbars and home-cinema receivers
  • Mass-market mini systems where a repair would cost more than the equipment is worth — we’ll tell you straight before any money changes hands

From the Workbench

The Kind of Work That Comes Through the Door

Vintage

A Dansette back in the family

A Dansette record player that had sat in a loft since the seventies arrived after a house clearance. A careful service of the motor and autochanger, a new stylus and some patient adjustment later, it played the family’s old singles again — and stayed in the family.

Valve Amplifiers

Jensen capacitors in a valve amplifier

The owner of a much-loved valve amplifier asked us to fit Jensen paper-in-oil coupling capacitors while it was in for a service. New valves where needed, the bias set properly, and a subtle but worthwhile lift in smoothness — exactly what a good upgrade should be.

Classic Solid State

A seventies receiver, saved

A 1970s receiver came in with a crackling volume control and one quiet channel. Contact cleaning, a handful of tired capacitors replaced and fresh dial lamps brought it back — and it went home to the same shelf it has sat on for fifty years.
